The GRP had a contest when the logo was redesigned after the Greens
and Rainbows came together. That experience revealed some pitfalls to
avoid in any similar process, but overall, it went pretty well.
Designing a website, of course, is much more complex. I've been
involved in several website designs; my role was determining content
and its sequence, home page links, subpage links as you drill down
into the site, etc. and then writing the content. Most of this work
was as an independent contractor (my business is "Words for Results")
with Tomlinson Inc. <Tomlinsoninc.com>
