Notes from Mem/Tech/Com phone meeting
-------------------------------------
Form & function
---------------
We need to consider how accessible it will be
to new people as they come on. Colby proposed
changes when he was Communication Director -
things like drop-down menus (expand & collapse)
We could have feeds of google news references,
news coverage of the party.
Different layers, linked to differently.
Classes of users. Oriented to party members.
Designing around what we do. Standard proposal template.
Figure out what different committees might need/want.
Better way of posting proposals.
Ranking proposals before the statecom meetings
Attractive/informative - get more involved,
get them to stay.
Clear invitation to get involved.
Calendar.
Room for emergency stuff.
Wiki/collaborative writing space
Blogs - official blog - members can write, editors can bump
Forums
Hash out what we want the homepage to look like, with open comments,
brainstorming online.
VISUAL
------
Visual impact - graphics & presentation, photos & videos
Graphics - less flat, more alive, more 3-D logo
CONTENT
-------
Political problem with website - "Learn more" -
Massachusetts Green Party, Rainbow Agenda,
A short history of the Greens, writings, misrepresenting
our platform. Rainbow had an agenda, Greens had a platform.
Where we stand (issues), casual to somewhat more interested level.
Issues would be the work of the platform committee.
Need a website policy, terms of forums. Very clear policy on writing.
Comment policy (read the Australian Greens policy as example)
Public listservs are hurting people in their campaigns (websites, blogs)
ACTION - vehicles for getting action done out in the world,
Global warming - click & send an email to legislators
Before you read to the end, you have to send a letter to your rep or senator
Need to clean up old content
Technical
---------
Can do some of this in Drupal now.
Drawbacks of plone - python for development,
setting up modules & templates
