State Report back from the national convention – Tucson, AZ July 27th-30th

I was the only delegate ( or attendee) from the state of MA, this made it
so that I could not attend that many workshops, I had to be at the plenary
in order keep national quorum. I spoke on the plenary floor twice, attended
a women’s caucus meeting, and poked my head into a boarder’s issues
discussion.
On the plenary floor I gave a state report and I spoke during a stack on
prop. 190, I read Owens statement.
In our state report, I reported that we were running a statewide slate of
four candidates. Said that we were close to achieving our signatures
driving placing all candidates on the ballot in November. We also expect to
win back our ballot line in at least one of those races (most likely more
than one….) I did not use all the time allotted for the report because there
were many other people that wanted to speak.
I also got on the stack when discussion of prop 190 came up. I got up to
read Owens
Stament, which I had printed out copies of and I put them on a literature
table. While I was wafting on line in the stack one woman cut in front of
me but I did not want to fight with her. She addressed the floor in front of
me> She said that she had been watching fox news and that she saw the
green-rainbow party at a demonstration in Boston on the national news
program. She said that someone (ok it was Dave,) had a sign that said
victory to Hezbollash on it, this apparently was not non-violent of
acceptable to her and then her time ran out. I got to the mic and told her
that she should not watch fox news and I read as much of Owens statement as
I could and directed folks to our state website it they had any questions on
out state parties stance.
There were only two caucus in attendance, the women’s caucus and the
lavender caucus. There is a sentiment with in the party that believes the
Green party of the USA should not have caucuses. It is an on going struggle
within the party.
We were given a national summary of our fiancés and it was very
depressing. One man suggested that we cut every bodies salary and close the
national office in DC. I don’t think that we should close the national
office. I want to volunteer there. I encourage more of the green –rainbow
party to volunteer in the national office. Right now rent is 2200$ a month –
I would saw we should be able to get something the same size for 1200$ but I
know DC is different that Boston. The answer to depleted funds was
merchandise. Buy a tee shirt, mm I don’t like fundraising but I think we
might in trouble if our treasurers can help with our national debt – please
go ahead.
We got a recap of the split party situation in Utah. There was an attempt
at mediation with a few lowers. There was no mediation. The desert greens
lost its case in court to have David Cobb on its ballot. One man paid all
the legal.
Chicago is under going a battle for ballot access. The have enough
signatures to place their slate on the ballot in Illinois yet they are being
challenged. They expect to win the court battle, but they expect it to take
time.
Two people have announced their candidate for presidency. Nan Garret, GA and
Katt Swift, TX
