GREEN PARTY ADDS CRITICAL OPTIONS TO MASSACHUSETTS PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY; JOINS MASSACHUSETTS LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS AND SECRETARY OF COMMONWEALTH GALVIN’S CALL TO ALL MASSACHUSETTS VOTERS TO PARTICIPATE

“We want to congratulate the Mass LWV and the Secretary of the Commonwealth on reaching out to the voters of our Commonwealth on their options for the February 5th, Presidential Primary in Massachusetts,” said Nat Fortune, co-chair of the Green-Rainbow Party.

“And the Green-Rainbow Party is honored to make our contribution to the choices before Massachusetts voters with an exciting array of Green Party candidates for President, offering real alternatives to voters.

Continued Nat Fortune, “We encourage voters who are unenrolled as well as GRP voters to go vote on February 5th and choose a Green-Rainbow ballot. Why? Because if you want real change, if you are really tired of business as usual, corporate greed, and governance by multi-millionaire candidates who have no real understanding of what we face as regular people, the Green Party offers you real choices: people who bring a wide range of experience and commitment to values we share like real participatory democracy and open government, economic well-being and real healthcare for all, a healthy, sustainable environment and an end to illegal wars.”

The Green Party Presidential Candidates on the Massachusetts ballot are available to answers the questions of the press (see addendum). In the order of appearance on the Massachusetts ballot:

  1. Jared Ball is an independent journalist; radio host (WPFW 89.3 FM Pacifica Radio in Washington, DC), hip-hop scholar, and assistant professor of communications studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
  2. Ralph Nader is a consumer advocate, an independent candidate for President in 2004, and was the Green Party candidate for President in both 1996 and 2000.
  3. Elaine Brown (withdrawn)
  4. Kat Swift is a Texas Green Party organizer, a former Campus Greens leader, and an activist with Clean Money San Antonio and San Antonio Democracy Now.
  5. Cynthia McKinney is a former member of the US House of Representatives (D-Georgia). She served in Congress from 1993 to 2003 and from 2005 to 2007, when she switched from the Democratic Party to the Green Party. She is also former member of the Georgia House of Representatives, serving from 1988-1992.
  6. Kent Mesplay was a 2004 candidate for the Green presidential nomination. He is a former president of Turtle Island Institute, an environmental engineer, an alternative energy activist, and a California Green Party organizer.

“As a party representative of regular people, we bring experienced candidates who also include the only other candidates of color and women candidates. If you want to hear more grassroots voices of people who represent the full diversity of America, voters in Massachusetts need to explore what real populist candidates have to offer on the Green-Rainbow Party ballot line,” added Merelice, co-chair of the Green-Rainbow Party.

“The list of Green presidential hopefuls includes two women (one of them African American), one African American man, at least two candidates with Native American ancestry, one of Arab ancestry, a former member of Congress, two former Green presidential candidates, an environmental engineer, a college professor, a candidate who will turn 35 in June 2008, and a 73-year-old.”
