THE GRP SHOULD DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO ENDORSE A CANDIDATE FOR THE US SENATE 2008 ELECTION ASAP
Monday July 09, @10:47PM, by Mike Heichman, Suffolk County
Subject : 2008 US Senate Election
from the CDLC dept.
Summary :
Should the GRP endorse a candidate for the US Senate in 2008? My guess is that today there are different opinions right now within the State Committee, the elected statewide leaders of the party.
I believe that all of us would agree to do so would be a major undertaking. And if we decide to undertake such a major project that we should do so with as much lead time as possible.
As of today I know of one member of the party who is actively exploring whether or not to run for the US Senate. His name is Alex Hahn and you can contact him at alex@hahnlawgroup.com and his telephone number is 617-962-6405.

I propose the following process:
1. At our July 29 State Committee, we establish a 2008 US Senate Committee. This committee will create and send to all known candidates a questionnaire. The Committee will interview all known candidates and prepare a report to the convention.
2. At the August 26 Convention, this committee will deliver its report to the convention. This report could include any kind of recommendation it would want to make (Examples: the GRP will not endorse a candidate for the US Senate in 2008; it could make an endorsement at a later date; recommend a candidate for immediate endorsement; etc.)
3. Any recommendation by the committee will be part of the agenda for the convention, to be debated and voted on by all eligible GRP members.
