Sunflower September 2007 Special Virtual State Committee Meeting

The September 2007 Online State Committee Meeting started on 20 September 2007.

Dear State Committee Representatives:

Since we currently have state party status, we will be having a Green- Rainbow presidential primary next year. After the primary the state committee will select delegates to the national Green party presidential nomination convention.

The plan for how we select delegates must by law be filed with the secretary of the commonwealth. The deadline for submitting a presidential delegate plan is Oct 1st 2007. The concept is to file essentially the same plan as we used for the 2004 presidential election.

But the state committee must approve the plan. That is the need for a special meeting and this call for it. We hope to take only 4 to 5 days to get through the virtual special meeting.

The following 11 state com reps (over 1/3 of the 24 seated state com reps as per our bylaws) are sponsors of the call for this special meeting:

  1. Nat Fortune
  2. Merelice
  3. Larry Ely
  4. Eli Beckerman
  5. Jami McLaughlin
  6. Elie Yarden
  7. Daniel Melnechuk
  8. Rob Crowner
  9. Gary Hicks
  10. John Andrews
  11. Mike Heichman

Please find attached a PDF of the modified plan.

Special Meeting Process Guidelines

  1. A call goes out 10 days before the start of the meeting. Those who do not have email are called.
  2. At the start of the meeting, an email goes out declaring the start and contains the text of the proposal. Those who do not have email will be called. You can discuss the proposal and ask clarifying questions -- if clarifying question, PLEASE note that in the subject or at the top of the email so that the facilitators and lead sponsors can try to answer that quickly.
  3. The email at the start of the meeting also contains a ballot response that allows you to express your concerns, if any, to the proposal with only three allowable responses as is always the case with our consensus process:
           No concerns
Yes concerns (state them), but stand aside
Yes concerns (state them), do not stand aside

  4. At any time if there are modifications to the proposal by the lead sponsors, the new proposal is emailed along with another ballot.
  5. After a period of time, the result of people's ballots are looked at and the results of the decision is announced and the meeting ends.
