How to get involved

Subject : Starting and Build Local Chapters
from the Working committees dept.
Summary :
The difficulty of getting more involved when one does not have a car and has mobility issues
Text :
We have some exciting candidates - particularly Jill Stein in Lexington/Waltham. I've been shy about getting more involved because of my enormous mobility issues - no car, no carpooling (that I am aware of), and difficulty in commiting fully (my problem, of course). Yet I want to be more fully engaged!! I love the green party platform and feel such a strong feeling of alienation from the Democrats. Has there been any efforts made to address the problem of mobility?

Hello Rich,
Yes, transportation can be a very difficult issue. The GRP does make a consistent effort to hold important meetings at accessible locations (public transportation available) and run carpool operations as needed. In the case of Jill Stein's race ( http://www.jill4rep.org ), if you are able to make it to Alewife Station, and notify her campaign team that you will need to be picked up from Alewife, they run carpool shuttles. Also, all important meetings and events are held at handicap accessible locations.
We'd love to have you at our events, and often it may require a phone call or two to meeting/event coordinator(s) to find arrangements for carpooling. It is also good to mention that you have mobility issues, it will help the event/meeting coordinators better prepare for your arrival, e.g. the coordinator may need to reserve an elevator access key.
Please do not feel that these issues will prevent you from getting involved. From my experience, GRP members are very inclusive and willing to listen and help make arrangements for people with needs such as yourself.
