A SECURE FUTURE: Let the Voters Speak!Global warming, unaffordable health care, housing foreclosures, regressive taxes, lack of choice in elections . . .These are all critical problems that people really want to see solved. But in many cases our elected officials are not responding with any decisive action. They need to hear from the people. With this in mind, the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts has launched an advisory ballot initiative that will allow voters to register their opinions with public officials this November. Advisory questions that speak to building a secure future for Massachusetts residents will be placed on the ballot in selected districts. These questions will instruct the representative from that district to vote in favor of legislation that provides real solutions to our urgent needs. The Advisory Ballot Working Group (ABWG) of the Green-Rainbow Party has settled on two questions that it is trying to place on the ballot. They are: A SECURE HEALTHCARE FUTURE
Shall the representative from this district be instructed (1) to support legislation that would establish health care as a human right regardless of age, state of health or employment status, by creating a single payer health insurance system that is comprehensive, cost effective, and publicly provided to all residents of Massachusetts, and (2) to oppose any laws penalizing the uninsured for failing to obtain health insurance?

Shall the representative from this district be instructed to vote in favor of legislation that:
(1) reduces greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts by 80% by 2020, and (2) phases out tax incentives for energy-intensive projects, while expanding job creation programs for locally-owned businesses and cooperatives involved in renewable energy, conservation, and sustainable agriculture? For more information, go to the Secure Green Future website, or write to sgf-info@masschc.org. Get involved now!The ballot campaign for each question in each district is being run as a non-partisan endeavor by a coalition of citizens and non-profit organizations. Some support on legal and organizational issues will be provided by the Green-Rainbow Party and other coalition partners. But we need YOU! This is all about people-power, and the ability of the grassroots to instruct their public servants regarding the urgent matters affecting their communities. If you or some organization you represent has an interest in getting involved, please fill out the form below so we can get more information to you. Don't wait to respond. Time is short. We need to collect 200 certified signatures from voters in each district by July 9th in order to put questions on the ballot. Send your response TODAY to kselcer@tiac.net. This will put you on our mailing list for further information. Yes, I want to know more about the ballot initiative!
